Jordan Alton “Chip” Fosland Jr., 68, of Scobey died Dec. 30, 2020.

He was born in Scobey on May 31, 1952, to Jordan Alton Fosland and Virginia Brown Fosland. He graduated from Scobey High School in 1970 and continued on to receive a bachelor's degree in social services from Montana State University in 1974. After graduation, he returned home where he pursued a career in farming. He took over the family farm south of Flaxville in the Pleasant Prairie community.

In 1979, he met his future wife, Gayle LuRae Bechtold. They were married on Aug. 1, 1981, and had three children, Jenna, Ben and Erin.

In 1992, he went back to school where he earned an associate degree in nursing from Miles Community College. He earned the honor of salutatorian of the class of 1995.

After graduation, he started his nursing career at Daniels Memorial Hospital in Scobey. He was a passionate and caring nurse, working night shifts for 26 years. He worked as a nurse in both the communities of Scobey and Plentywood over the course of his career. He retired from Daniels Memorial Hospital and nursing in 2017.

He enjoyed spending time hunting, camping and fishing, especially ice fishing. He enjoyed making beef jerky and was most known for the jerky he made for care packages to the troops stationed overseas.

He was actively involved in Daniels County Ambulance crew for many years. In the later years, his daughter Jenna joined the crew, which was very meaningful to him and he eventually turned his call number, 37-28, over to her.

He served as a member of the Scobey Lutheran Church council. He enjoyed following his children’s various activities throughout the years — he embraced and supported Ben’s love for music, was always front and center to cheer on Erin’s sports activities and never missed an opportunity to relax on the ice with a fishing line aside Jenna. In later years, he was most proud of his grandchildren and never missed a chance to spend time with them.

He was a proud patriot, a diehard Republican and very proud lifelong member of the NRA.

Hr was a Eagle Scout. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. Through scouting, he was able to share his passion for the outdoors while guiding many young men to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, most meaningfully, his son, Ben.

He is survived by his wife, LuRae; three children, Jenna Jones of Scobey, Ben Fosland of Scobey and Erin Loendorf of Wolf Point; four grandchildren; and sister, Jane Gidlewski of LaPort, Colo.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 7, at Scobey Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Landeraaen officiating. Interment was at the Daniels County Cemetery in Scobey.
