Gregory Frances BadHawk died Dec. 28, 2020, in Wolf Point.

He was born June 9, 1965, in Wolf Point to Delores Fourstar-McConnel and Jacob BadHawk.

Growing up, he endured and throughly enjoyed being the company of his grandparents, Buster and Mabel Fourstar and Leslie and Freda Fourstar. It was from them he learned and grew to respect his culture and one he instilled in his children. Nothing rang more true for him than being a father and he was proud of the people they grew up to be.

He attended high school at Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Ore., where he excelled in cross country and helped lead the team to championship. It was one of many proud times in his life. After he graduated high school, he went onto college (1986) at Haskell Indian College. He returned and finished college in 1991 at United Tribes Technical College, where he graduated with an AAS degree in political dcience.

Shortly after, in 1993, he began his career in law enforcement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Fort Belknap Agency in Harlem. He was recognized for his outstanding work over the years and was presented the opportunity to work for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department in Wolf Point as deputy sheriff. He also served for Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice and the Poplar City Police Department. He loved being a police officer and stood by the police officers’ creed to “serve, safeguard, protect, maintain peace and to respect the constitution of the United States.”

He was always friendly and greeted everyone with the biggest smile. He was helpful and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He was courteous and always put others before himself. He was very respectful to his elders and followed the ways of his culture and traditions.

He loved the outdoors and hunted or fished any chance he got.

He is survived by his children, Gregory, Joseph, Joshua, Roberta, Daniel, Anessa, Xanthia, Duane and Jasmine; 17 grandchildren; sister, Connie Kawasaki; brothers, Darren Bad Hawk, Michael Bad Hawk, Eve BadHawk, Sidney and Skeeter Campbell, Inez Herrera.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alice Ann BadHawk; and brother, Wayne BadHawk.

A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 1, at the new Community Hall in Wolf Point under the direction of Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel.
