Cody and Bridgette Featherston hosted a clinic July 18-19 for young people interested in fine tuning their lamb and goat showmanship prior to the regional fair season.

Cody told the Northern Plains Independent

that 11 kids attended the two-day camp at the Roosevelt County fairgrounds in Culbertson. He said as many as 20 kids had completed registration prior to rescheduling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The kids that came got really good one on one time, “ said Featherston.

The camp is now in its fourth year. The Feathersons led the activities it for the first time in 2020, after participating in support roles during previous camps. Wyn Reimann of Richey, founded the camp.

This year’s clinic focused on teaching active 4-H members how to prepare for showing their animals at area fairs and shows. Activities included animal selection, hygiene, feeding/nutrition, clipping, home vet care and proper presentation.

Featherston said former 4-H’ers Matthew Finley and Cody Blegen served as clinicians.

Of the 11 attendees, Ayla Yoder has already seen success after winning Champion Lamb Showman at the Sheridan County Fair in Plentywood July 23.

Local 4-H entries for the Roosevelt County Fair are set for Thursday, August 13, beginning at 4:30 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 14, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The auction is set for 6 p.m. Friday.
