Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site has made the decision to cancel the upcoming 2020 Rendezvous scheduled for June 18-21.

“The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers and partners at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site is our number one priority,” said press release issued May 11.

The National Park Service is working with federal, state and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID- 19 pandemic.

This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, said the press release.

Alice Hart, Fort Union Trading Post superintendent said, “The popular Rendezvous event attracts more than 3,000 participants and visitors and is supported by more than 100 volunteers. Current guidance for social distancing and limitations on large gatherings make it unsafe to hold such an event in the near future.”

The park is planning new digital outreach for the week of the rendezvous, including a social media campaign celebrating past rendezvous’ and hosting a digital version of the ever-popular Kid’s Day on Thursday June 18. Look for updates at the park website: nps.gov/fous and on the group’s Facebook page.

Updates about NPS operations will be posted on nps. gov/coronavirus. Check with individual parks for specific details about park operations.
