He was born May 17, 1955, to Robert and Pauline Jasper  in Glasgow. He grew up hunting, playing football and working with his dad and farmers around Culbertson. After graduating from Culbertson  High School in 1973, he worked at the safflower-  crushing plant. He was always known as an incredibly  hard and smart worker and quickly took on more and more responsibility at the plant. His last years at the plant, he served as superintendent.  Having only one job never seemed enough to keep him busy. He also worked with Gary Rassmussen towing  vehicles, Kevin Martin farming and his dad moving entire houses, a skill he used to move his own house into town.
