{"id":75780,"date":"2024-02-22T05:00:10","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T12:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uswps06.newsmemory.com\/northernplainsindependent\/news\/2024\/02\/22\/franklin-kummerfeldt-20240221-0444-164388\/?destination=northern-plains-independent"},"modified":"2024-09-13T15:41:39","modified_gmt":"2027-03-02T15:41:39","slug":"franklin-kummerfeldt-20240221-0444-164388","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernplainsindependent.com\/2024\/02\/22\/franklin-kummerfeldt-20240221-0444-164388\/?destination=northern-plains-independent","title":{"rendered":"Franklin Kummerfeldt"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t Franklin Kummerfeldt, 91, of Nashua died Feb. 11, 2024.<br \/>\n\t  He was born Nov. 3, 1932, to William and Ossie (Jamison)  Kummerfeldt on their homestead north of Nashua with friend and neighbor Effie  Brandt as midwife.<br \/>\n\t  He started farming and ranching at an early age progressing  from plow horses to tractors as well as raising cows, pigs and chickens. He attended Bjorkland School, graduated from Nashua High School and attended Montana  State University during the winter term. While at MSU, he attained his pilot\u2019s license.<br \/>\n\t  In the early 1950s, he traveled  cross-country to visit friends and relatives in New York City. Another adventure  took him south to Mexico.<br \/>\n\t  His passions were farming, his antique cars and flying. He enjoyed league bowling, hunting, boating and water skiing. He was a long-standing  member and office holder  with the local elevator and Farmers Union\/CHS.<br \/>\n\t  He married Meredith Geer in April 1961. By 1968, their family of four needed a bigger  house so he built a new home and Frank, Meredith, Karyn and Kurt moved in just in time for Christmas.<br \/>\n\t  He continued to grow and expand his farm and love of flying. He bought a Cessna 182 and a small training airplane.  After earning his instructor\u2019s  license, he soloed a number of people in the community.<br \/>\n\t He and Meredith began to travel during the winter with their International Flying  Farmer\u2019s group, enjoying their time in Arizona, tours across the states and as far away as New Zealand.<br \/>\n\t  In his later years, he met Lorraine Gabel, also an avid pilot. They spent their retirement  time between Independence,  Oregon and Sun City, Ariz.
