He grew up on their family farm south of Wolf Point in McCone County. Cal was the youngest of four brothers. He attended country schools in the community  through the eighth grade and graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1948.<br \/>\n\t  Following graduation, he began farming the family farm with his brother, John Jr. During that time, he met and, in 1952, married Alice Hentges,  and they began their life together of 71 years, raising their three sons: Kim, Wes and Brad. Cal and Alice continued  to live on their farm until 2020.<br \/>\n\t  In his earlier years, Cal enjoyed  elk hunting trips, snowmobiling,  fishing and camping  with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching baseball, especially his favorite  team, the Dodgers.<br \/>\n\t  Cal was active in the local Farmers Union and served on its board of directors for several  years.
