Wolf Point High School senior Mahala Moran not only keeps busy by competing in sports year round, but she also is very committed to her academics and career plans.

Moran notes that she already has most of her first full year of college classes completed because of her dual- credit and summer college studies. She currently ranks eighth in her class.

Every other Sunday, she works a 12-hour shift as a CNA at the hospital in Poplar.

“I want to be a doctor, so I though being a CNA would be a good job for me,” Moran said. “My favorite part is being able to watch the doctors and know what I would need to do.”

Her goal is to become a pediatrician. “Being at work, I realize that I like to help kids,” Moran said.

She will study pre-medicine, but she is undecided which college to attend.

Moran’s involvement in sports at Wolf Point High School includes volleyball, tennis and basketball.

Her favorite sport is tennis where she has competed in both singles and doubles. She especially liked playing doubles with Hamyanie Campbell last spring.

“The trips are fun,” Moran said. “I think [Dan] Horsmon is a good coach and I’ve learned a lot.”

She says she enjoys playing both basketball and volleyball. She has been a solid varsity player for both sports.

During the summer, Moran serves as the pitcher for Wolf Point’s softball team that has won the last two league championships. She taught herself how to pitch when she was about 13 years old.

“I feel the most relaxed playing softball,” Moran said.

In the classroom, her favorite subject is psychology. “Mr. [Jerry] Worley always has fun activities for us.”

Her favorite teacher is Horsmon because she can joke around with him.

After attending a variety of schools, she is glad that she has been a Wolf Point student since the eighth grade.

“I feel the people here are more friendly,” Moran said. “It was easier to get know each other. Everybody is close.”
