Rasmussen resigns from Bainville Town Council

The Bainville Town Council accepted the resignation of councilwoman Carol Rasmussen during its latest regular meeting, while also moving forward with several community projects. Mayor Toby Romo presented Rasmussen’s resignation letter to the council. Her resignation became effective at 11:59 p.m. following the meeting.

Rasmussen has also been working with Roosevelt County on paperwork involving the Bainville Museum and Senior Center property. The council recommended forming a committee to oversee the property, with further discussion expected at its next meeting. Two positions are also open on the Museum Board.

The council approved a quote from Rocky Mountain Fencing to install a new fence around the town’s lagoon ponds. John Bach of Interstate Engineering said he researched the ponds’ liners and found they were designed to withstand exposure.

Bach and Kali Buxbaum also met with the council to discuss forming a steering committee as part of Bainville’s growth policy process.

In other old business, Laura Christoffersen is working on a quitclaim deed that would place the RV park in the Town of Bainville’s name.

The council also received an update on plans by Derik and Tina Pierce to develop their property. Romo said he met with Derik Pierce and representatives from the Montana Department of Transportation. Tina Pierce said the family is working with Interstate Engineering on a property survey and plans for water and sewer service.

During new business, the council opened a sealed bid for the town’s surplus irrigation pivot and accepted a bid submitted by Amy Iverson.

Council members discussed possibly developing Washington Avenue between the Welcome Stop and the railroad tracks. The matter was tabled until the September meeting.

The council also approved a bid from Agri Industries for water line work at First English Lutheran Church.

Fire Chief Cora Norton reported that the Bainville Volunteer Fire Department has welcomed new volunteers. A company is also expected to measure firefighters for turnout gear. Norton reminded residents that the area remains under Stage 1 fire restrictions and encouraged anyone with questions to contact him.

Romo reported that the new cemetery fence has been purchased and is ready to be picked up in Billings.

The Bainville Softball Committee raised $534 through its Burgers in the Park fundraiser held during the community garage sales. The council also approved Vicki Myers as a new member of the committee.

The council approved $51,706.44 in claims and journal vouchers and $19,719.70 in payroll. It also approved voiding three checks, including one issued in March that was lost in the mail and never cleared.

The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m. The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Bainville Town Hall.
