Red Hawks Score Win Over Cowgirls

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks stayed on top of the league standings with a straight set home victory over Culbertson on Monday, Oct. 3.

Froid/Lake emerged with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-18, victory in Medicine Lake.

The Cowgirls held the upper hand for much of the first set. The net play of Makena Hauge and Perla Burciaga led the way to a 7-3 advantage. A kill by Destiny Thompson and an ace by Jazzmin Fugere put Culbertson ahead 12-10.

After a spike by Froid/ Lake’s Mara Salvevold, the Cowgirls answered with a spike by Thompson and an ace by Leandra Perkins. A block by Hauge put the margin at 17-15, but Froid/Lake gained the lead on a block by Dasani Nesbit and two aces by Makaylee Elvsaas.

Culbertson fought back for a 22-21 advantage, but Froid/ Lake accounted for the final four points on kills by Salvevold, Carolyne Christoffersen and Nesbit. In the second set, the Red Hawks jumped out to a 12-6 lead on the net play of Nesbit and Jaeleigh Davidson. After an ace by Perkins cut the gap to 13-8, the hard serving of Aleah Johnson along with a tip by Baylee Davidson put the margin at 18-8.

Christoffersen then pounded three kills for a 21-10 advantage. An ace by B. Davidson was good for a 23-10 lead.

After another kill by Christoffersen increased the margin to 24-14, the Cowgirls put up a good fight with five straight points on aces by Alicyn Ator and kills by Hauge. Froid/Lake ended the set on a kill by Nesbit.

Aces by Elvsaas and kills by Nesbit produced a 15-5 lead for the Red Hawks in the third set. B. Davidson scored on a tip for a 16-5 margin.

After Hauge served two aces, the Cowgirls battled back to as close as 19-14. A kill by Christoffersen and two kills by Nesbit produced a 2315 advantage. A kill by Nesbit ended the match at 25-18.

Nesbit finished with 13 kills and three blocks. Christoffersen accounted for nine kills and one block. Johnson served three aces and had eight digs. B. Davidson finished with 25 assists and one dig. Elvsaas served six aces. Salvevold had two kills, an ace and an assist.

J. Davidson scored four kills. Addison Elvsaas added an assist.
